Recently tensions between groups of parents and the school board increased after parents say an allegedly transgender individual assaulted a girl at one of the schools. Earlier this month US Attorney General Merrick Garland directed federal authorities to hold strategy sessions in the next month with law enforcement to address the increasing threats targeting school board members, teachers and other employees in the nation's public schools. This in response to a request from the National School Boards Association asking US President Joe Biden for federal assistance to investigate and stop threats made over policies including mask mandates, likening the vitriol to a form of domestic terrorism. Hundreds of students across Virginia walked out of class to demand safety in their schools. This comes after a teen boy was found guilty of raping a classmate.

The Loudoun County students said they’re standing in solidarity with sexual assault victims and took aim at school officials for failing to protect them. On Monday, a 15-year-old boy was found guilty of raping a girl in the girls restroom while wearing a skirt.

His arrest came two months after the attack and prompted allegations of a coverup. The student went on to sexually assault another girl at a different school, a case in which he faces sexual battery and abduction charges.

Students across the district are now calling for accountability and increased safety measures. In addition, the girls’ father said he plans to file a lawsuit against the school system over the matter.
