Test type : Walgreens Covid Testing

A COVID 19 test is available that can test for current or past infections.

  • A Viral test will tell you if you are currently infected. Two types of virus tests are available: nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) and antigen test.
  • An Antibody test (also called a serology test) can tell you if you have been infected in the past. Antibody tests should not be used to diagnose the current infection.

Who should be tested for the current infection?

  • People with COVID 19 symptoms.
  • People who have had close contact with people with COVID 19 should be tested for infection.
    • Fully vaccinated individuals should be tested 5-7 days after the last exposure.
    • People who are not fully vaccinated should be tested immediately if they are found to be in close contact. If the test result is negative, it should be retested 5-7 days after the last exposure or immediately if symptoms appear.
  • Unvaccinated people who participated in activities at high risk of COVID 19 because they cannot be physically distanced as needed to avoid exposure such as walking around.
  • An individual who has been asked or referred to be tested by a health provider, state, tribe, external symbol of the area, or the local health department.

The CDC recommends that anyone with signs or symptoms of COVID 19 be tested, regardless of vaccination status or previous infection. If you are being tested because you have symptoms or may have been exposed to the virus, stay away from other pending test results and follow the advice of your doctor or public health worker.

How to be tested for current COVID 19 infections ?

  • Contact your healthcare provider or visit your state, tribe, local external symbol, and local health department website for the latest local information about your test. The type of COVID 19 virus test provided may vary from location to location.

If you have signs or symptoms of COVID 19 and cannot be tested by your healthcare provider or health care provider, you and your healthcare provider may consider either a home collection kit or a home test.

Use of Viral test results

  • If the test is positive, you know what protective measures you should take to prevent others from getting sick.

Positive Viral Test

If you test positive for the virus that causes COVID19, here are the steps to keep others safe, regardless of your COVID19 vaccination status. Quarantine at home and quarantine from others for at least 10 days.

  • If symptoms appear, keep quarantined for at least 10 days after the onset of symptoms, unless the symptoms improve and there is no fever for at least 24 hours without the use of antipyretics.

  • If you have a serious illness with COVID 19, or the immune system is weakened.
  • The test result was positive, followed by a negative result.

Negative virus test

If the test for the virus causing COVID 19 is negative, no virus has been detected.

If you have COVID19 symptoms,

  • You may have received a false-negative test result, but you may still have COVID19. You need to isolate yourself from others.
  • Talk to your doctor to discuss your symptoms for a follow-up test, especially if your symptoms worsen, and how long you have been quarantined.

If you have no symptoms of COVID19 and, you may have been infected with someone with COVID19:

  • Probably not infected, but you can still get sick.
  • Self-quarantine at home for 14 days after exposure.
    • People who are completely vaccinated with the COVID19 vaccine do not need to quarantine themselves at home.
  • Contact the local health department for residents of non-medical community facilities (eg correctional facilities and detention centers, group homes) and workers in community facilities and high-density workplaces (eg for ways to reduce quarantine). (If you are in quarantine at home) Symptoms appear:
    • Contact your doctor for follow-up tests.
    • Isolate at home from others.

If you have no symptoms of COVID19 and no known exposure to people with COVID19:

You do not need to quarantine yourself.
